    Lead Pastor |

    As Lead Pastor, Kevin is called to provide spiritual leadership and direction through teaching and preaching. 

    His prayer is not "Lord, help me prepare a message this week," but "Lord, prepare my heart to hear the message You have for me and others this week." Kevin's first priority is to seek God with his whole heart so he can lead others well with authenticity and integrity. 

    Kevin loves spending time with his family. He's been married for nearly 30 years and has two adult daughters. Kevin lives on a small hobby farm with horses, dogs and cats. Needless to say, he's rarely bored!

  • Mike Murray

    Executive Pastor |

    Mike began attending Wayzata Free Church in 2003 when he and his wife moved to Plymouth. Over the years, Mike has held many volunteer roles at church including serving five years on the Elder Board.

    After 34 years with General Mills, Mike retired in 2015. He has extensive experience managing and coaching teams and developing and implementing annual plans. As Executive Pastor, Mike’s focus is to support Wayzata Free’s mission: To help all people take their next step to know, follow and become like Jesus.

    Mike and his wife, Dayna, have been married for 34 years. Their son, Matt, lives in Chicago. Mike enjoys golfing, traveling, spending time with family and anything to do with THE Ohio State University.

  • Beth Moorhead

    Counseling & Prayer |

    Beth is the director of the counseling ministry. She also meets with two intercessory prayer groups each week and leads a Bible study at a rehab and care center along with a group of faithful volunteers from Wayzata Free. In her work as a pastoral counselor, Beth loves meeting people, hearing their life stories, connecting them with the Lord and encouraging them in their faith. 

    Beth and her husband have two adult daughters, two wonderful sons-in-law, and four delightful grandchildren. Beth and Ian love dogs, reading, going for walks, and traveling together.

  • Dee Sandberg

    Caring Ministries |

    Dee is affectionately referred to as the church's first responder and social worker because she loves to connect people, resources, talents and passions. She is responsible for coordinating the church's caring initiatives. Dee was actively involved in ministry at Wayzata Free before joining the staff. Some things never change. Dee loved going on her kids' field trips in grade school. Now one of the best parts of her job is taking our seniors on outings.

    She and her husband have three adult children, two wonderful daughter-in-laws and one grandchild. When she isn't working, chances are you'll find her on a road trip to see her kids!

  • Sharon Williamson

    Faith Community Nurse |

    Sharon is thrilled to be part of Caring Ministries as Wayzata Free’s first Faith Community Nurse on staff part time.   

    Faith Community Nursing blends nursing skills with ministry, working together with present staff to:

      • Show a loving presence of the Lord and connection with our church body to the ill, home bound and those facing medical challenges.

      • Be an advocate for help or referrals through the medical myriad.

    As a registered nurse with various past hospital experiences in emergency and oncology, she feels blessed to work with Dee Sandberg and other volunteer nurses in our midst.  

    In her spare time you’ll find her gardening or babysitting some precious grandchildren. Sharon and her husband Rick have adult children and six grandchildren.

  • Andrea Hebeisen

    Worship & Prayer Director |

    Andrea handles all elements of the Sunday service, except for the message and connects the worship team with other ministries. She has a deep passion for prayer and leads our prayer ministry. Andrea is working to develop and oversee the implementation of a plan that will place prayer at the center of our corporate life.

    Andrea and her husband John are enjoying activities on their recently acquired hobby farm. They are managing a home renovation project, raising chickens and mini Scottish highland cattle, and are adding other farm animals to their property. New hobbies include making maple syrup and tending to new hives of Minnesota hearty honey bees.   

  • Shannon bry

    Music Director/Producer (kids-adults) |

    Shannon is a long-time member and active volunteer at Wayzata Free. Her professional background and servant heart in both instrumental and vocal music give her the ideal skill set to lead and develop our worship teams. Shannon, her husband Jeff and their four children have attended Wayzata Free for more than a decade.

  • Katie & Lance Waage

    Nursery Coordinators |

    Katie and her husband Lance visited Wayzata Free in 2014 and instantly fell in love with the community of people. She is passionate about helping new moms and young families through the transition into parenting and coordinates the making of freezer meals for these families monthly. She is thrilled to join the team as Nursery Coordinator where she can use her passion for young families to create a welcoming and inviting space for the youngest in our congregation. 

    When she isn't at church, you will find her at home raising their three children and enjoying cooking and gardening. The family enjoys camping together and almost anything outdoors.  

  • Andrea Berens

    Preschool & Administration |

    From running preschool programs in Minneapolis to teaching 5th-8th graders at a Christian school, Andrea loves working with children and youth of all ages. As the Family Ministry Assistant and Preschool Coordinator, she brings a passion in seeing our children understand who they are in Christ. One of her favorite aspects here at Wayzata Free is watching the preschoolers singing to God and saying their Bible verses.

  • Sara Galligan

    Kids Pastor |

    As the Kids Pastor, Sara oversees all ministries related to kids from birth to 5th grade. She has worked at Wayzata Free since 2007 and enjoys working with an amazing team of volunteers. In addition to directly leading the elementary ministries on Sundays and Wednesdays, she also teaches, runs a student leadership team (Club Corps), organizes a number of summer camps and facilitates various family events throughout the school year. 

    Sara loves spending time with people who are important to her, family and friends rank high in her priorities. 

  • Bruce Droogsma

    Middle School Pastor |

    Bruce works with an incredible youth staff that seeks to disciple students. He has been a youth pastor at Wayzata Free Church since 2010 and LOVES youth. Bruce teaches Sunday School and leads Sunday Night Youth Group and other events and service opportunities.

    Bruce met his wife at Wayzata Free when they were volunteers in the middle school program. They were married in 2006. They have four children, two sets of twins! In his free time Bruce enjoys being with his family. Bruce is also a big fan of University of Minnesota sports, GO GOPHERS!

  • Bekah Elgard

    High School Pastor |

    God has placed a deep passion in Bekah to serve, teach, and pastor youth. Her heart is to provide a place where students can be authentic, encouraged and challenged in their faith. Bekah is a graduate of the University of Northwestern in St. Paul where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Ministry with a concentration in Biblical Teaching of Youth. She felt God’s call to vocational ministry in high school.


    Raspberry mochas and chai tea lattes are her favorite. She enjoys reading theology books, preaching, singing and playing guitar. Bekah has a huge heart for worship music and ministry. She also have a weird love for squirrels (if you want to know more about why, feel free to ask :) 

  • George Kenworthy

    Spiritual Formation & Outreach Pastor |

    Before joining the staff at Wayzata Free, George, his wife Terri and their two children spent ten years as missionaries in Mongolia with the Evangelical Free Church of America. Their work included planting a church in an unreached area and building a school and clinic which all ultimately became Mongolian-led. 

    George was named Humanitarian of the Year for Mongolia after organizing a relief effort following three months of -40 degree temperatures. The relief effort distributed blankets, food and fuel to rural Mongolians. 

    It is evident when you meet George that he has a heart for outreach and for people to experience God's love in real and powerful ways.

    Small Group Ministry Leaders |

    Irv and Nancy have been attending Wayzata Free for the last year and a half and recently became members. They have hearts for authentic groups that encourage and challenge the members.

  • Jo Schroeder

    Director of Wayzata Women |

    Jo had the privilege of growing up in a Christian family and being taught early how to love and follow Jesus. She has been active with Women's Ministries for most of her adult life beginning with Jr. High girls as a newlywed and continuing by being part of church leadership teams and a group leader with Bible Study Fellowship. A year ago she became the Director of Wayzata Women here at Wayzata Free working with a great team of ladies who love the Lord and love to get women engaged with each other and in the study of God's Word.

    She has been married to her husband Doug for 38 years and has two grown and married children and the most adorable 2-year old grandson, Wesley. Jo is also part of the ministry of the University of Northwestern by serving on the planning committee for the Set Apart Conference for Women. 

  • Devon Eklund

    Facilities Manager |

    Devon handles the day to day maintenance of the facility and gets the rooms ready for ministries, classes, staff and outside groups. Devon aims to provide a clean and pleasant environment so people can experience God.

    Devon and his wife have four adult children. When he isn't working in the church building, Devon loves to vacation with his wife and play golf with his friends.

  • Mike Brinkman

    Operations Pastor |

    Mike manages the administration of the church. You might find him talking budget numbers with the Finance Team or figuring out how many cobs of corn it will take to feed everyone at our annual Block Party. Before Mike moved into his current role, he was Wayzata Free's Youth Pastor. He's worked at Wayzata Free for more than 25 years. 

    Mike and his wife met at Bethel University (back then, it was Bethel College). They have a son and a daughter and enjoy traveling. 

  • Shelby Bjerkaas

    Administration |

    Shelby grew up at Wayzata Free Church and has been on staff for the past year and a half. She helps with office tasks, manages the church calendar and keeps the office running smoothly. 

    Shelby met her husband at Crown College. They have two beautiful children. When she's not working, Shelby loves to bake and do anything "crafty".

    “How can I help?” Over the years God has impressed on my heart how impactful and encouraging those four words can be and as part of the administrative staff, I enjoy having the opportunity to ask this question often. It’s a joy to learn from and come alongside members of our community, church family, and staff as we collectively seek to love and serve God and others in a variety of ways.

  • Cherie Pedersen

    Administration |

    Cherie has been the church receptionist three days a week since 2006. She does the church mailings, provides the staff with all office supplies and helps with any administrative needs they have. 

    Cherie and her husband Don have been married 40 plus years and love doing activities with their three grandchildren. Cherie and Don also enjoy hiking in state and national parks.
