High School

High School is a great time of discovery, discovery of who you are and who God created you to be! Our desire is to provide a place where students can be authentic, encouraged and challenged in their faith.

IMMERSE Small Group | 6:30 pm

IMMERSE is a small group designed for High School students that want to dig deeper into the topics being taught during Wayzata's Sunday morning worship service. We want to come alongside High School students to help them engage in the adult service as they become adults themselves. This small group will also have an opportunity for creative components we incorporate throughout the year.

30 Hour Famine | April 13-14 | 7:00 pm-7:00 am

This year we will participate in World Vision's 30 Hour Famine. This will not be easy. 30 hours is just the beginning. Go hungry with us for 30 hours to help raise funds for those who go hungry all the time. Our fast will begin at 1:00 am Friday morning. Drink lots of liquids (including juice and milk or other healthy drinks). Then, join us on Friday at the church starting at 7:00 pm for a lock-in with service opportunities and teaching times around hunger and poverty. We will break our fast at 7:00 am with breakfast on Saturday. The goal of this event is to raise money for those going hungry. If you cannot fast for 30 hours (or if you cannot fast from food for medical or other reasons) feel free to adapt as NEEDED but we would encourage you to challenge yourself. This is not just a lock-in. We want each person who comes to raise at least $40 (which is enough to feed and care for one child for one month). Our goal as a group is to raise $1,500.

Hope Poverty Simulation | May 2 | 5:30-8:00 pm | Wayzata Free

In the face of overwhelming global need, it’s easy to feel paralyzed. As believers, we know we’re called to act, but what do we do? You are invited to take a first step by symbolically slipping into the shoes of men and women living in poverty to gain a greater understanding of what it’s like from the inside. The Hope Poverty Simulation is a 2 1/2-hour, immersive, experiential learning opportunity designed to help participants symbolically experience the realities of a lifetime spent living in poverty. Over the course of the simulation, you will be confronted with a series of challenges that mimic the complex, everyday realities that men and women living in poverty are forced to grapple with. This experience will benefit anyone interested in learning more about engaging in global poverty. Please wear clothing suitable for sitting on the ground and closed-toe shoes. Appropriate for ages 14+. Contact George at george.kenworthy@wayzatafree.org with questions.

Parents' Night Out

May 4 | 5:30-9:30 pm | Wayzata Free

Parents' Night Out is a fundraiser for the Haiti Mission Trip. Parents can have a night out while their kids have an awesome night in at church! Kids will enjoy games, craft, snack, and a movie. The High School Haiti mission trip team will volunteer that night, along with other students and adults. There is no cost but free will donations will help cover expenses of the Haiti trip. We are asking parents to register their child(ren) prior to May 4. Contact Bekah at bekah.elgard@wayzatafree.org with questions.

Haiti Mission Trip | June 17-23

This summer the high school group will be going to Haiti for their Missions Trip. The team is full but please be in prayer for our students and leaders going and stay tuned for ways to partner with them in fundraising opportunities leading up to the trip.

AWOL | July 15-20

AWOL (A Work of Love) is our middle school summer missions experience to Maple Hill Estates mobile home community in Corcoran, MN. For this week to happen, we rely on the leadership of key high school student leaders. This is a week that we spend sleeping in campers, loving on kids in the community, putting on a VBS and generally helping the community of Maple Hill Estates. There is no cost for High School student leaders. Current 9th grade students: you are welcome to apply but will only be accepted if we have a second site this year. AWOL training day is MANDATORY and is Monday, July 9th. Click here to register.

Sunday Mornings

We want High School students to be incorporated in the regular worship service at Wayzata Free as they become adults by serving and attending worship. Students can serve in Club Corps (2nd hour), sit in the student section in worship (2nd hour), join their family or serve elsewhere across church. If you have any questions or want more information on where you can serve on a Sunday morning, contact Bekah Elgard at bekah.elgard@wayzatafree.org.

Donuts | 10:15 am | C-103

Every Sunday the students in 6th-12th grades are welcomed to C-103 starting at 10:15 am for donuts. This is a time between services for us to connect, laugh and enjoy being together before students head off to serve or attend the service together in the student section.

Sunday Nights

Youth Group | 6:30-8:30 pm | Fellowship Hall

High School Youth Group is a time where we focus on community building through games, worship and teaching with an emphasis on small groups. Bekah and a team of excellent volunteer leaders love to build relationships with high school students and invest in their lives. This year we are re-vamping our program and adding to our timeframe to better serve the students. We hope that you can join us!

6:30-7:00 | games (middle school and high school separate)

7:00-7:30 | worship time led by youth worship team (middle school and high school combined)

7:30-8:30 | teaching and small group time (middle school and high school separate and small groups based on grade and gender)

Current Series | Romans

The gospel. We hear that word all the time at church but what really is the gospel? Our series on Romans will help us unpack that: the heart of the gospel, the assurance we have through the gospel, and the transforming power of the gospel. We’re going to be looking at what makes the gospel truly Good News - the reality of our sin covered by the greatness of God’s grace. If you want to more fully discover the truth of the gospel in a fresh and deeper way come join us as we study Romans!
